A world-class IPoE BNG on a standard x86 server, free for up to 5,000 subscriber sessions

RENO, Nev. — October 15, 2026 — BlueDot today announced the release of Quantum IPoE BNG 1.0 Community Edition, a free version of its subscriber-edge platform that supports up to 5,000 concurrent IPoE sessions with embedded DHCP and AAA services. It is, quite literally, an ISP in a box: download it at no charge, install it on an x86 server, and you are in business. No third-party RADIUS or DHCP services are required. The Community Edition runs 1,000 sessions out of the box, and a free, self-service registration raises the limit to 5,000.

Quantum IPoE BNG delivers the software for the most important device in an ISP’s or WISP’s network: the firm’s Economic Edge, its subscriber edge. It is where the business plan becomes reality. A flood of anonymous traffic arrives, and the session table turns it into individual customers. Each one runs on the plan you sold, at the speed you promised. And each one leaves a record of what they used and what you’re owed.

“For the estimated 62,000 ISPs and WISPs worldwide running fewer than 5,000 subscriber sessions, the free Community Edition of Quantum IPoE BNG is an economic game changer,” said Jeff Elpern, co-founder of BlueDot. “We deliver world-class, carrier-grade functionality for free with excellent performance on standard x86 servers. We believe it is the strongest solution in this market: better than MikroTik, better than VyOS.”

A World-Class Subscriber Session Table

The core of any IPoE BNG is the feature set, performance and scalability of its subscriber session table. Quantum IPoE BNG gives the small ISP a best-of-breed solution on all three.

Features. The Quantum session table is a proprietary algorithm that delivers a rich feature set at the level of the individual subscriber: every subscriber has their own entry in the table. For each one, it enforces the subscriber’s plan with bidirectional tri-color QoS, generates AAA accounting records, and builds detailed usage analytics.

Performance. Quantum is built on DPDK and VPP, the leading combination for high-throughput packet processing on x86 servers. On top of that pipeline sits BlueDot’s proprietary, highly optimized session-table algorithm. With a full 5,000-session table, the architecture is designed to forward at line rate on interfaces up to 100G.

Scalability. The Quantum data plane is worker-based and scales linearly as cores are added. The Community Edition is capped at 5,000 sessions, but the architecture is built to go well beyond that, up to 100,000 sessions. Quantum IPoE BNG scales well on an average x86 data center server.

Embedded DHCP and AAA in the Control Plane

The Quantum control plane delivers a complete solution: DHCP, authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA), the session lifecycle, timers, accounting records, persistence and recovery, and a REST API. This is carrier-grade control functionality with two big payoffs for the ISP.

First, because DHCP and AAA are integrated, subscriber onboarding runs at nearly 400 sessions per second. In validation, 5,000 subscribers powered on at once were all online in 12.5 seconds, an order of magnitude faster than onboarding through external services. Second, embedded DHCP and AAA eliminate the costly integration engineering and ongoing support that other solutions require. That makes the ISP more profitable.

“Our Quantum IPoE environment, spanning the data, control and operations planes, is a new code base developed in the AI era. We are not trying to maintain and extend a 20-year-old platform,” said Bob Miller, co-founder of BlueDot. “AI augmentation across development, coding, testing and documentation is BlueDot’s competitive advantage. It lets us ship world-class features and deliver new economics for both our Community Edition and our commercial products.”

A Single Pane of Glass for the Operations Plane

The platform includes QuantumTouch, BlueDot’s web-based operations plane and the single pane of glass an operator uses to run the system. A guided Setup Wizard takes a new deployment from download to carrying live subscriber traffic in under an hour. From there, QuantumTouch delivers live dashboards, a plan library, the subscriber and plan database, a one-glance health verdict, per-subscriber analytics, point-in-time configuration snapshots with rollback, and a unified audit timeline. Enterprise-grade access control, including single sign-on, multi-factor authentication and role-based permissions, is built in, not bolted on. QuantumTouch sits above the forwarding path and never touches a subscriber packet.

“Most operators at this end of the market run their edge through CLI or an outdated GUI,” said Kevin Austin, co-founder of BlueDot. “This is the Economic Edge of the ISP or WISP, and they need better. QuantumTouch gives a two-person WISP the kind of operations console the big carriers pay a fortune for, with turn-up, live visibility, configuration rollback and an audit trail, all in a browser tab. That’s how a small team runs a serious network without a NOC.”

Availability

Quantum IPoE BNG 1.0 Community Edition is available free at bluedot-insight.com/products/quantumbng/. The platform requires a commodity x86 server running Ubuntu 24.04 (Linux kernel 6.8). Raising the session limit from 1,000 to 5,000 takes a free registration at bluedot-insight.com/marketplace and a TPM 2.0 device. For a quick evaluation on a PC, an .ova virtual appliance that includes a traffic generator is also available (requires VirtualBox).
